Emong Nears Luzon, Dante to Exit PAR

Typhoon Emong continues to strengthen over the West Philippine Sea and may make landfall over La Union or Ilocos Sur. Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Dante is moving out of PAR towards the Ryukyu Islands, but both systems are enhancing the Southwest Monsoon and causing rough sea conditions.

As of July 24, 2025, two tropical cyclones are affecting the Philippine region. Typhoon Emong, now over the West Philippine Sea, is bringing storm-force winds, heavy rain, and dangerous sea conditions to parts of Northern and Central Luzon. At the same time, Tropical Storm Dante is moving out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility towards the Ryukyu Islands but continues to enhance the Southwest Monsoon. Residents and mariners are urged to stay vigilant as both systems will bring widespread rains, strong winds, and high waves to many parts of the country.

Hazards Affecting Land and Sea

Heavy Rainfall and Winds

  • Both systems are enhancing the Southwest Monsoon, bringing heavy rains and strong to gale-force gusts over many areas including Central Luzon, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Bicol Region, MIMAROPA, parts of Visayas, Mindanao, and Northern Luzon through Saturday.
  • Localized flooding and landslides are possible, especially in mountainous or low-lying communities.

Storm Surge

  • Typhoon Emong may cause storm surge (1.0–2.0 m) in low-lying and exposed coastal areas of Batanes, Cagayan (including Babuyan Islands), Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, and Zambales.

Coastal Waters

  • Very rough or high seas are expected over the western seaboards of Luzon (up to 14.0 m Ilocos Sur/La Union, 11.0 m Pangasinan, 8.0 m Zambales, 6.0 m Bataan).
  • Rough seas (3–4.5 m) also affect surrounding areas, including Batangas, Mindoro, Palawan, and Batanes.
  • Moderate seas (up to 2.5 m) in nearby coastal regions; mariners and small craft should avoid travel.

Track Outlook

Typhoon Emong:

  • Expected to turn east and accelerate northeastward, possibly making landfall over La Union or Ilocos Sur on July 25, before crossing northwestern Luzon and moving over the Luzon Strait.
  • May intensify slightly before landfall, but weakening is expected as it crosses Luzon.

Tropical Storm Dante:

  • Moving toward the Ryukyu Islands and East China Sea.
  • Expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by this afternoon or evening and gradually weaken by the weekend.

Advisory

Residents in affected areas should take all necessary precautions, especially those under TCWS and in low-lying or coastal communities. Mariners are advised to remain in port and avoid sea travel until conditions improve. Stay tuned for official PAGASA updates and heed local evacuation and safety instructions.
