Dante Intensifies into Tropical Storm; Emong Now a Tropical Depression




Tropical Depression Dante has intensified into a tropical storm east of Extreme Northern Luzon. At the same time, Tropical Depression Emong has just formed inside PAR. A third LPA is also being monitored outside PAR.

As of 8:00 AM, July 23, 2025, PAGASA reports that Tropical Depression Dante (formerly LPA 07g) has intensified into a tropical storm east of Extreme Northern Luzon. At the same time, LPA 07h inside PAR has developed into Tropical Depression Emong. Another LPA (07i) outside PAR has a high chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.

Latest Tropical Cyclone Update

  • Tropical Storm Dante:
    • Formerly LPA 07g, now intensified east of Extreme Northern Luzon at 8:00 AM today.
    • Moving north northwestward at 15 km/h.
    • Maximum sustained winds: 65 km/h, gustiness up to 80 km/h.
    • Location: 900 km east of Extreme Northern Luzon (20.8°N, 130.6°E).
    • Forecast: Expected to continue over the Philippine Sea, moving toward the Ryukyu Islands and East China Sea. Dante may exit PAR by the afternoon or evening of July 24.
  • Tropical Depression Emong:
    • Developed from LPA 07h inside PAR.
    • Details on track and intensity will follow in upcoming bulletins.
  • LPA 07i (outside PAR):
    • High chance of becoming a tropical depression within 24 hours.
