The former Typhoon Chedeng, now known as Severe Tropical Storm Guchol, located outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), is expected to enhance the southwest monsoon in the next three days, according to a weather advisory issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) at 11:00 PM yesterday.
As of 3:00 AM today, Guchol is situated 1,550 km east-northeast of extreme northern Luzon, with maximum sustained winds of 110 km/h and gusts of up to 135 km/h. The severe tropical storm is moving northeastward at a speed of 35 km/h.
Heavy rainfall ranging from 50-100 mm is expected over Metro Manila, Bulacan, Benguet, Occidental Mindoro, the northern portion of Palawan, including the Calamian and Cuyo Islands, and Antique.
Ilocos Region, Zambales, and Bataan should brace for rainfall of 100-200 mm.
Ilocos Region, Zambales, and Bataan can expect to receive 50-100 mm of rainfall during this period.
During this interval, the Ilocos Region will continue to experience 50-100 mm of rainfall.
Under these conditions, flooding and rain-induced landslides are possible, particularly in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards, as indicated in hazard maps. Localities that have experienced substantial amounts of rainfall in the past several days should exercise particular caution.
Residents in the affected areas, particularly those living in areas identified as highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards, are advised to stay vigilant, follow instructions from local officials, and take necessary precautions to protect life and property.
