Baguio Remains Under Signal No. 1; 9 Benguet Towns Under Signal No. 2 as Maymay Maintains Strength

Baguio City remains under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1, while 9 municipalities in Benguet are now under Signal No. 2 as Tropical Storm Maymay maintains its strength over the sea west of Ilocos Sur, PAGASA said late Wednesday afternoon, August 5, 2026.

Tropical Storm Maymay maintained its strength while moving north northeastward over the sea west of Ilocos Sur, according to PAGASA’s Tropical Cyclone Bulletin No. 7 issued at 5:00 PM.

As of 4:00 PM, the center of Maymay was estimated at 145 kilometers west of Sinait, Ilocos Sur.

Maymay has maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour near the center, gustiness of up to 90 kilometers per hour, and a central pressure of 996 hectopascals.

It is moving north northeastward at 10 kilometers per hour.

Areas under Signal No. 1 may experience strong winds ranging from 39 to 61 kilometers per hour. PAGASA said these winds may bring minimal to minor impacts to life and property.

Habagat and Wind Conditions

PAGASA said the Southwest Monsoon and the outer circulation of Maymay may bring strong to gale-force gusts over most of the country today, Thursday, and Friday.

Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor objects such as tarpaulins, signboards, plant pots, roofing materials, and other light items.

Sea Conditions

A Gale Warning is in effect over the western seaboard of Northern Luzon.

PAGASA said very rough seas may affect the seaboards of Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan, where waves may reach up to 5 meters.

Sea travel is risky for all types of vessels in these areas. Mariners are advised to remain in port or seek shelter until winds and waves subside.

Track Outlook

PAGASA said Maymay will move generally eastward and may make landfall over the Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, or La Union area by tonight or early Thursday morning, August 6.

After landfall, Maymay is expected to cross Northern and Central Luzon until Thursday.

The tropical storm is forecast to remain a tropical storm as it approaches land. After landfall, it may weaken into a tropical depression by Thursday morning and may be downgraded further into a low pressure area by Thursday afternoon or evening.

The next tropical cyclone bulletin will be issued at 8:00 PM today.
