Baguio City cases surged to 109



After several weeks of recording a low number of COVID-19 cases in the city. Baguio has now reported today (January 5, 2022) a high number of cases totaling 109. This is the first time that Baguio City has recorded the number of cases in triple digits in a single day compared to the number of daily cases in December of 2021. The City of Baguio also recorded ten (10) recoveries and zero (0) deaths today.

In the national scope, the Department of Health has recorded 10,775 new COVID-19 cases on January 5, 2022. Six hundred five (605) recoveries and fifty-eight deaths (58) were also recorded on the same day.

Baguio City Mayor appeals to residents

Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, appealed to the residents of Baguio City to use medical-grade quality facemasks instead of cloth facemasks. This is to provide the individual with better protection amid the threats of the Omicron variant. The Mayor also stated that people may opt for double masks using surgical and cloth facemasks.

As of today, no information has been provided on the most likely source of the surge of cases as well as the vaccination status of those who were infected. Updates will be provided as soon as information becomes available.
