Tropical Storm Ada has intensified as of Wednesday afternoon, January 15, 2026, with strong winds affecting parts of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Several areas are now under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1, while rough to moderate seas are expected along eastern coastal waters.
Tropical Storm Ada, internationally named Nokaen, strengthened into a tropical storm at 5:00 PM on January 15, 2026. As of 4:00 PM, its center was located about 400 kilometers east of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte.
The cyclone is moving northwestward at 15 kilometers per hour, packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center, with gusts reaching up to 80 kilometers per hour. Its central pressure is at 998 hectopascals, with strong to gale-force winds extending up to 400 kilometers from the center.
Ada is forecast to move generally northwestward through Thursday, January 16, before shifting north-northwestward to northward on Saturday, January 17. By Monday, January 19, the cyclone is expected to turn northeastward.
On its current forecast track, Ada may pass close to Eastern Samar and Northern Samar by Saturday, and near Catanduanes by Sunday, January 18. A further westward shift could result in a possible landfall over Eastern Visayas or the Bicol Region.
The storm is forecast to gradually intensify over the Philippine Sea within the next 48 hours before weakening as it turns northeastward east of Catanduanes. Forecast confidence may still change in succeeding bulletins, particularly for the weekend period.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 is in effect over the following areas, indicating strong winds with minimal to minor impacts on life and property.

The highest wind signal that may be raised during the passage of Ada is Signal No. 2. Stronger winds may be experienced in coastal and upland areas exposed to prevailing wind directions.
Heavy rainfall is expected in several areas due to Tropical Storm Ada. Residents are advised to monitor official rainfall advisories for possible flooding and landslides, especially in areas identified as highly susceptible.
Rough seas are expected along several eastern coastal waters during the next 24 hours.
Wave heights of up to 4.0 meters are possible along the northern and eastern seaboards of Catanduanes, Northern Samar, Siargao-Bucas Grande Islands, and the eastern coasts of Albay, Sorsogon, Eastern Samar, Dinagat Islands, and Surigao del Sur.
Seas of up to 3.5 meters may affect Camarines Norte, northern Camarines Sur, and the eastern seaboard of the Polillo Islands. Moderate to rough seas are also expected in parts of Isabela, Aurora, Quezon, mainland Cagayan, and Davao Oriental.
Mariners of small seacrafts, including motorbancas, are strongly advised not to venture out to sea under these conditions, particularly those operating ill-equipped vessels or with limited experience.
The public is reminded that heavy rainfall and strong winds may still be experienced outside the forecast landfall areas. Residents are advised to remain vigilant, secure loose objects, and follow instructions from local disaster risk reduction and management offices.
