New Zealand Records 2 New COVID-19 Cases

New Zealand is among the countries in the world which are known for their success in controlling the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), three (3) days after they have declared the coronavirus outbreak a public health emergency of international concern, New Zealand has already started to introduce disease prevention measures which they continued to strengthen in the weeks that followed.

However, as reported by the New Zealand Ministry of Health on a press release today, August 5, 2020, there are two (2) new COVID-19 cases that are in managed isolation facilities in New Zealand. Both of the said cases are from the Philippines.

COVID-19 Case 1

• A man in his 20s who arrived in New Zealand on July 23 from the Philippines via Hong Kong
• He has been in managed isolation at the Rydges in Rotorua
• He tested negative for COVID-19 around day 3 of his stay
• He has been transferred to the Auckland quarantine facility

COVID-19 Case 2

• A woman in her 40s who arrived in New Zealand on August 1 from the Philippines via Hong Kong
• She has been in managed isolation at the Grand Millennium in Auckland
• She tested positive around day 3 of her stay

The total number of active COVID-19 cases in managed isolation facilities in New Zealand is now twenty-four (24) which brings the total number of confirmed cases in their country to one thousand, two hundred and nineteen (1,219).

Even though it has been ninety-six (96) days since the last COVID-19 case in their country was acquired locally, New Zealand is not putting its guard down.

According to the New Zealand Ministry of Health, their country’s response to COVID-19 works on the basis that they should be prepared for a case of community transmission which could happen at any time.
