It’s finally here! Philippine Airlines has announced the opening of their Baguio to Cebu route. Beginning December 16, 2022 Baguio City residents and tourists can now travel from Baguio City to Cebu. This is made possible by the opening of the long dormant Loakan Airport.
What this means for Baguio residents who are planning to visit the Queen City of the South is that it would an easier and faster travel. Gone are the days…hopefully…when you have to travel to Terminal 2 or 3 in NCR or the nearest airport to Baguio via Clark airport.
Starting December 16, 2022 PAL’s Baguio to Cebu flights will operate four times weekly with convenient morning departures.
— departing Mactan Cebu at 8:50AM, arriving at Baguio Loakan Airport at 10:50AM
— departing Baguio City at 11:10AM, Arriving in Cebu at 01:00 PM
As a Baguio resident, I have heard of stories when Loakan airport was operational and how air travel bridged the time gap when traveling from Baguio to Manila. In the stories it is astonishing to know that travel time from Baguio to Manila took only about less than an hour compared to land travel of 6-8 hours before the construction of TPLEX and 3-5 hours after construction of said expressway.
Historically, PAL’s very first destination was Baguio City with their Manila-Baguio flight which happened last March 15, 1941 which became the start of aviation in the Philippines and in Asia.
